The spoils of .. the weekend

Following up on my post from yesterday, I finished the first batch of alien mercenaries. Great miniatures, loads of character and really fun to paint - can't recommend them enough.

My paintjob was really simple as you can see, but will be ok on the tabletop.

Here they are again with a little friend and a test model UNSC (the space trooper) - with a green rifle! For the final UNSC colour scheme I am going to make the grey a little lighter and maybe change from white stripes to spots or blotches.

I have tried some different colour schemes for the UNSC today, but the red and white dude was staring at me from across the table .. and all I can say is that maybe it's an acquired taste.

In other news, I have ordered a copy of Tomorrow's War.

Colour testing

I'm trying to find out a cool colour scheme for my Ground Zero Games UNSC. I envisioned something with red and black - but I don't think this test came out good. Also the red is maybe a little bit too much space opera..
And I'm painting my legionairies red..

I'm also working on some alien mercenaries, also Ground Zero Games. Their pants are finished..

I have finished the first and second in command for my Flames of War army. With this I thought I was done, but realised that I have to do 1 more command team *doh* for the Leichte Infanterie Geschütze (light infantry guns)

Finished the first 8 Romans today, all exactly the same as the first one.

I timed painting them and each took around 20 minutes, pretty good.

Veni Vidi Vici

My first Roman, for my soon to be Roman Field of Glory army. He is from Corvus Belli - nice to paint, easy to clean and all in all a good buy.

Painting this guy was mainly an exercise to find out what colours to use and how to paint them quickly. It was fun to paint as quickly as I could with a very limited palette (there are 10 colours only on this guy, and no mixing)
I think it went well and am confident that I can finish a bunch on sunday.

I spent some time painting today, but only managed to finish this dude. (Also on my workbench are more 15mm Germans for Flames of War)

I think it is a Necromunda Wyrder, actually a really fun game when you play in a campaign with a few friends. I still have my Escher gang lying around.

Finally an update worthy of my blog!

After being distracted by some real life things and even some Warhammer 40k *boo hiss boo* I have managed to paint something real!

A single team of German infantry for Flames of war :-)

I also managed to finish 4 bases of 6mm Cuirassiers for my Napoleonic project, when they are based and gotten their label I will take some pictures of those too.

Pimp my ride

Finished all halftracks that are needed in my current Mid-War Panzergrenadier company. These last four I finally finished where bought around 2008, together with my platoon of Panzer III J tanks. Pretty good to finally see them painted in a stardard I find acceptable.

The lot still need passengers & decals - but I don't have those.

I have a painted German Panzergrenadier company for Flames of War, but my painting standard went up since when I finished that so I started painting a lot of German stuff without the rush of getting an army ready to play.

Anyway - finished some halftracks tonight. And had a single 8-rad to finish too, they still need decals and passengers - but I don't have those lying around anymore.

My painting style is fairly cartoony on these vehicles, because I want them to really pop when on the table. The infantry is also painted with a fairly high contrast (and fat highlights).

Today was a fairly productive day, painting wise!

First up, another mercenary

Next up the NAC soldiers. They are actually fairly quick to paint and look nice in a group I think. I painted this bunch all at the same time, doing the same part in the same colour every time. It wasn't as much fun as painting character miniatures, but every universe needs grunts.

I also didn't spend a lot of time on the highlights or the faces, just enough to make them interesting up close & looking good on the table.

The whole gang together, I'm happy with the progress these last three weeks! What do you think?
Next up, maybe more NAC, perhaps their robotic support or get started on the L-UNSC?

Also I have to start thinking about basing & storing these guys properly, because they are currently bunched in a small Feldherr bag together with my Necromunda Escher and it's full. Advice?

Autumn update

The Ground Zero Games order arrived and I got started painting some stuff.

First up a renegade/mercenary/armed civilian, quick and easy.

Some kind of big mutant, I got a load more of these and this one was a lot of fun to paint.

First NAC - will be some kind of marine in my universe. I don't know if I am happy with this one. The colours are really bland and because the face is hidden the entire miniature looks a little boring. The golden visor and red/white shoulderpad I added later to make it a little more interesting..

Anyways, 2 more mutants and a mercenary on the painting desk for tonight.

Ordering madness!

I have ordered a bunch of 15mm figures from Ground Zero Games:

- Colonists, lots of colonists
- Alien mercenaries, two packs - for something fun!
- L-UNSC, best looking sci-fi infantry imo (lots)
- NAC infantry, the real grunts (lots)

No vehicles yet, maybe next month. Will have to compare the finished miniatures to what fits and looks good.

Tonight I'll get to painting some more miniatures, starting with a technician in overalls. It's good to unwind after another very busy week.

Today is a really productive day for me it seems! Did three more sci-fi dudes from start to finish! All from Ground Zero Games.

Vikings!

I am proud to present my first unit of Vikings!

They are the plastic 28mm Viking Hirdmen from Gripping Beast, I found the set to be nice to assemble and the miniatures fairly nice to paint. Simple 1 shade or highlight style that I find looking good on the table as well as reasonably good when held up close.

Enough jibba-jabba - time for pictures!

I will probably use them for Warhammer Ancient Battles, either as a Viking mercenary unit or regular Hirdmen. The second unit is mostly spear armed and has a more uniform appearance (all the same brown pants & shoes and the same colour tunics - will probably even give them the same shield designs)

Anyways I'm very happy with finally getting them finished. Next up, maybe a 15mm sci-fi figure?

Doctor Jones

The first update of the last miniature I painted, from Ground Zero Games "Free Trader Crew Pack A"

I spent way too much time on this single miniature, and it is the highest standard that I like painting on 15mm. I hope to use him for some 15mm skirmish stuff - although he doesn't really look sci-fi. More like Indiana Jones (minus hat & whip) then again, the Firefly crew doesn't really look that sci-fi either.

Welcome & plans

First post I guess should be something of a welcome so here goes.

I'm 25 years old and from the Netherlands. the blog title is a Dutch phrase meaning "bravery, prudence and loyalty"

This blog started to keep me more motivated on my wargaming hobby, as I get deeper into adult life time for hobbies gets scarcer and every little bit of motivation helps. Anyways my plans in wargaming are:

Finish my German Flames of War army (1500 points MidWar but also usable for EarlyWar)
Start a Dutch Flames of War army (I have been busy on a Dutch forum writing rules/stats and even some playtesting)
Really get cracking at Napoleonics in 6mm (Adler miniatures with March Attack for rules)
Finish my Viking WAB army (28mm plastic Gripping Beast)
Get into 15mm sci-fi (perhaps with the new Gruntz, Tomorrow's War or Fubar. Hell perhaps all!)
Play more!

A smart man told me to "plan your work and work your plan" - good advice. Of course I will probably get sidetracked a lot by other fun stuff (it's a hobby after all)
